Crew's AA squad acquires Billy Beane pick

One Kevin Melillo was signed by Huntsville after establishing himself as a 2B in triple-A. Melillo was chosen by Oakland in the 2004 draft. You gotta root for the guy: he made it to the bigs for exactly one plate appearance, becoming (for now) the 5th player in MLB history to have one walk and nothing else. His AAA stats are unimpressive, but he does have good plate discipline (maybe that's what Beane liked); if he's a slick fielder, he would be a reasonably good September call-up.
